let’s get personal

Asking “What do you do?” really is one of the worst ways to get to know someone, isn’t it? “Why do you do what you do?” Now that’s a much more interesting question… to which, in my case at least, there is no easy answer.

For starters, it might help for me to give you a peek of the many hats I wear, outside of my work that is… mother, caregiver, co-vivor, care-partner.

Each of these experiences have undoubtedly impacted and informed my work. But they’ve also influenced and transformed my relationships and my friendships. In some cases, they've contributed to my own personal connection-divide and brought the value of supportive relationships to life in a very real way.

If you look or perhaps listen closely, you’ll find nods to these challenges, triumphs, and lessons in my storytelling.

But more importantly, you’ll likely hear echoes of your own experiences, be reminded of the people who have helped you tread, grow, and thrive, and learn new ways to strengthen the connections that count– and ones that you can count on.

Get to Know Dr. Miriam

  • A notebook – I somehow seem to have an unreasonable number of to-do lists running at all times and I like the creativity that comes with putting pen to paper. What will I leave the house without? The pen… every time.

  • While I’m in the shower or on my morning walk.

  • Whether I spoke too much… or not enough.

  • Tofino, Tokyo, and a few special spots in California.

  • Humor. Especially when it encourages me to sit with – not run away from – what feels scary, uncertain, challenging, or exciting.

  • Waking up early and sipping my morning coffee extra slowly, going for a walk on the mountain or by the water, and heading home to spend time with friends and family over good food, great wine, and nostalgic music.
